STRENGTHEN VOCATIONAL TRAINING
Haiti’s biggest scourge is unemployment. It reaches unheard-of proportions. The battle of the future is that of job creation. Everywhere and by the thousands. In small, micro and large companies, in the private and the public. In all sectors of the economy. We must be able to guarantee employability conditions for our youth, notably through quality vocational training. In Haiti, vocational training should not be seen as a catch-up or second chance route, but rather as a fundamental pillar of a national project. It should aim to train qualified young people who can enter the labor market. It must be aligned with the priority sectors of the economy. We need more mechanics, plumbers, carpenters, blacksmiths, tailors, shipowners, electricians …
To be effective, vocational training for young people must also be adapted to the needs of hiring companies. Also The movement encourages a reform of vocational and technical education that is thought through with the employers through the chambers of commerce and industry. Together, the private sector and the state must define the professions of the future.
In Haiti, it is clear that the system mainly produces graduates in law, letters, commerce, accounting, economics, social sciences, engineering and agriculture. This is good, but this model is outdated. Our graduates face unemployment because there is less and less need for these specialties. It will be necessary to invent the new Haitian economy and at the same time define the technical profiles that can boost this economy and make it work. Only then can we claim double-digit growth!
